Michael R. McGee
Expert Witness - Forensic Surveying
Michael R. McGee PLS is a licensed surveyor and
owner of McGee Surveying Consulting, established in 1977. He offers
professional services to the public and primarily to surveyors,
engineers, attorneys and government agencies. He has over 40 years'
experience in all aspects of surveying as a licensed practitioner
and a survey engineer, and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in
Surveying Engineering (1990) from California State University, Fresno.
Mr. McGee has qualified as an Expert Witness in
numerous Superior Courts in California and in the San Francisco
Federal District Court. He has served in the capacity of a master
at the request of the United States Attorney General's Office San
Diego. He has served as instructor and lecturer at Cal Poly San
Luis Obispo and CSU Fresno. He has published and presented papers
addressing legal and technical issues in the surveying profession.
Mr. McGee served as the 1985 President of the state land surveyors
professional society, chaired the State's Advanced Technologies
Committee and served as an ongoing member of the California Spatial
Reference Center Coordinating Council.
Forensic Experience: Thirty-nine years' testifying
in civil and criminal cases, preparing reports, exhibits, and
historical abstracts. His experience includes litigation involving
property rights, liability and criminal proceedings; subject matter
includes residential boundaries, GLO boundaries, water boundaries,
adverse possession, historical uses, easements, trespass, accident
depiction and re-creations, analysis of photographs for spatial
relationships and others. He has provided consulting and expert
witness services to over 80 attorneys since 1973.
Services include forensic investigations,
testifying as an Expert Witness, participating as an undeclared
case consultant, and preparation of reports. Field survey
measurements and observations are performed in person (not by
subordinates) such that testimony in depositions and court is based
on firsthand knowledge.
